Reply to PS: It is Marc Warren from the MPT version of Oliver Twist circa 1999. He played Edward "Monks" Leeford and blew all my socks off. Even the ones I wasn't wearing at the time.

WHAT. I am just reading Oliver Twist right now (I know, a little late to the party. But I just saw the movie "Twist" and I really liked it and I want to pick out the parallels to the book and the very loosely based-on-the-book movie). I have to say I don't know what character he is in the book, so you can tell how far I got. ):

I really wish there was a Masterpiece Theatre CHANNEL. I mean, PBS is pretty close to it but it's still not enough. Everything they do is so good.

I didn't read the full thing till 2007, so don't feel too bad. Monks pops up a few times but he really doesn't make the scene big time till the end. (Thankfully the 99 movie keeps my favorite scene intact and Warren owns it) Spoiler alert! He's the catalyst for the story going into motion. (Re: Fagin's involvement. Well, in the movie version is more his mom...but still) If this "Twist" is the one I'm thinking about they might have left out Monks altogether, like WAY too many versions do. (Or they play him as an old man, which WTF-makes no sense.)

Sorry about the ramble. Long day at work and I'm a tad wired!

Twist is about a group of hustlers, and yes they leave a whole bunch out (from what I've gathered by comments and reviews of the movie).

Hahah for some reason I just keep thinking of the Wishbone version of Oliver Twist and if they left out Monks or not.

HEE! Oh Wishbone. I loved that show. Me my mom and my ex used to watch it together.

I bought it from the PBS store. I don't remember how much it was.
I've been sick for two days and I've watched like every movie I have and I completely forgot about Wind in the Willows until I saw your secret.
