N!S6. THIS. SO. FUCKING. MUCH. Except, I rather like having her batshit around. It is amusing. 134. IA. Given Whedon's other shows, I suspect they would have gone there, and not kept it unrequited, and that's a pairing that works far better when the characters are attracted to each other and do nothing about it. 142. Agreed. I can't watch more than a couple minutes without changing channels, and I never have been able to. The show just makes me sick. 153. I'd never admit this non-anon, but this non-published author prefers really good fanfic to really good published fic. 157. People read and write fanfiction in large part because they want more than they get from canon. For most people, what they want more of is romance and character exploration. I read gen on occasion, but to be honest, my craving for gen is satisfied by canon. My craving for porn and romance and pairings isn't. Plus, well, porn is hot. 171. We don't know what his costume will be (I'm voting velvet). The pics of Smith in front of the Tardis are photoshopped and his clothes are his own, not the Doctor's.

Thanks for "getting" my secret. I was trying to make the point that I find great fic more satisfying than a great novel, which is ironic - considering my profession. :)

There's something about fanfiction that's just more satisfying to me. Maybe it's because so much fanfic is romance but without the romance industry fail, and likewise with the porn. For slash and to a lesser extent femslash fans, fanfic offers something people can't find elsewhere. Perhaps it's just because people are lazier - getting into a novel is more work. Fanfic is almost always substantially shorter and the reader doesn't have to encounter new characters and settings. But I'm also firmly in the camp that says fanfic is the heir to the storytelling tradition since lost in anglo-american culture(s), and as such it scratches an itch people can't get scratched elsewhere.

And I was rather surprised at all the comments about quality. Of course fanfiction has more chaff; the entrance barriers are far, far lower. But we're talking about the good stuff.
