Anthy is possibly one of the most complicated and easily misunderstood characters in media, period. It took me two viewings of the series to get just what was going on with her (the theory I like best about her is that she's the character closest to an actual person in the cast, so the way a person looks at her is a really a reflection of how they see themselves).

I agree. Perhaps the reason I love her so much is because I don't think I'll ever be able to entirely understand her; in fact, I think she's the kind of character that has motives and meanings hidden from her own creators- her own tangible secrets if you will. While the OP's post made a fantastic point about misogyny being a part of her character archetype, it's only a small facet of what she is and and can be.
