There's this running joke I've been a party to where Zak teaches Malia and Sasha to be ninjas and Amy doesn't approve at all and Rahm thinks it's the cutest thing in the world and then they grow up and Zak is all crushing horribly on the Obama girls because dude, how could you not, but meanwhile they're sneaking through the ceilings of the West Wing spying on members of Congress and threatening them with sharp pointy objects under Zak's careful grooming. Meanwhile Ilana and her fierce boots are just fierce. It's horribly saccharine and adorable and based on no canon material whatsoever but there you go. You're not alone.

Also I don't understand why there are so many people who are like EW NO WAIT UNTIL THEY'RE LEGAL. I don't see the secret saying OMG AND I TOTALLY ENVISION THEM SEXXORING EACH OTHER OVER A TABLE!! or whatever, merely that they ship them. Have none of you been to elementary schools where girls get all catty over who sits next to the cute boy at lunch and gets to hold his hand during recess? If the secret poster is going so far as to stalk any of the kids, then that gets creepy, but merely shipping kids shouldn't be any different than, say, people who write actively for Card Captor Sakura or Pokemon, and shouldn't be any more or less creepy than other types of RPS (which is a whole other can of worms).

It's creepy in the same way that tabloids always speculating about and prying into the lives of celebrity children are creepy.

Hmm, I will grant you prying into the lives of celebrity children is very creepy and very no good. But I guess I've just never found speculation to be that creepy just in and of itself.

It is if you post it on the Internet as part of a public online community that the kids in question can get to just by googling their names.

So, your argument is, if this person wrote real person fanfiction about Rahm Emanuel and Barack Obama's kids, but put locked down their journal so that no one could see it and it was non-googlable, it's okay? It's really just whether or not the kids themselves find it? Hmmm.

Yes. I'm a substitute teacher, I'm in schools all the time. That's probably why I find RPS of children to be creepy. I think RPS shippers can draw the line at pre-pubescence

Well, I guess it's just a personal thing then. Like I say above, I've just never found speculative writing to be that creepy, unless you're actually writing about them doing things that are age inappropriate or you take it far enough into prying about their personal lives or selling their image for profit (like the Beanie Baby dolls). There's an inherent creepiness about RPF in general, I'll grant, but if we ignore that level of creepiness, then it's just like saying shipping Sakura/Syaoran nonsexually is creepier than shipping, say, people in the Gossip Girls nonsexually just because one pairing features elmentary school kids and another are in high school.

I don't find age-appropriate shipping of fictional characters creepy, it's just RPS of children that bothers me. But I think there's a clear difference.

It strikes me as kind of cute when it's like this whole thing you're mentioning in your comment here. I don't THINK anyone I've seen has even THOUGHT about them in a sexual way, thank God.

But I can see how just theorizing about their lives in a totally non-shippy way could still squick people out. I mean, I get weirded out by the number of pictures that are taken for magazines of the Obama girls. So IDK.
