I see your point but I'm a little confused because I don't think OP really talked about consuming specifically pet cats.

I guess. Depends on which country, though. In the US, all cats are domesticated and intended as pets. Not in all other countries, though. OP could go to one of those countries.

Huh? Stray cats are not intended as pets or domesticated.

Yes, they were originally. They happen because stupid, evil people leave their cats when they move or someone lets their cat outdoors and it runs away and then they have kittens because people don't fix their cats. They started as pets.

Started as pets. But three generations from that, they are not.

+1 And some aren't fully wild, but they're not pets. Barn cats are there to keep the rodent population down.

Not true! The kittens can still be socialised to be 100% domestic, even after generations of feral life. And in the same way, if the kitten of two domestic cats doesn't get socialised by humans in its first 6 weeks, it will be feral. It's a much shorter socialisation window than most domestic animals, but it's still there, so by definition they are feral or domestic, not wild.

Domestic isn’t the same as “pet.” Yes, you can steal kittens from a feral colony and make them pets. You could steal piglets from feral pigs and do the same thing. It’s not the best way to get kittens or pigs, and we shouldn’t be purposefully propagating invasive, destructive feral species, but they are both descended from domestic animals that are frequently kept as house pets.

Not all stray cats are feral.

You know what, you guys are right. I was thinking with my heart, being a cat person and having a cat and currently being in the middle of a move that is super stressful for her and being all focused on her and worried about her. I wasn't thinking things through with my head. I was reacting viscerally and then coming up with the explanation.

I've always been fine with people in other countries eating dogs. I've never considered it being done in the US, and I don't want to think about it. But I don't really have a moral objection, just a personal reaction. Sorry.

It's honestly totally understandable to me. I don't have any objections to people other than myself eating meat. But I don't like to think about it either, if I can avoid it. I guess that's part of being vegan. But in the end it's fine that others eat meat if they want, that's all there is to it.

But I reacted way more emotionally to reading about people eating cats and dogs, even though I know it's normal in some countries. So I get your reaction completely. It's tough to detach yourself emotionally sometimes.

What? That's not true and it's so obviously not true it's absurd. There are tons of cats that aren't domestic pets.
