Like half the characters in Much Ado About Nothing. It works there because Shakespeare. The number of ridiculous things directors can get Benedick to do while he's listening in in his friends' conversation is infinite.

YEAH! Much Ado WORKS, and I love the sheer level of shenanigans, and there are definitely a few fandoms where that works... but I get being annoyed by shoehorning that into places where it's not the canon's vibe or just making it a side character's entire personality. Like, in Much Ado, the matchmaking is a big plot and everyone gets into it, but they still have the other plotline and their own lives and feelings!

It's one thing to write, say... a fic where the plot (or B plot) is 'Sam wants Cas and Dean to admit their feelings because he's sick of the combination of pining, brooding, and unresolved sexual tension (and wants the people he cares about to be happy)'. But a fic where the plot is high stakes, and you have one character still utterly focused on someone else's relationship?
