Who are they harming

(Anonymous) 2021-05-27 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Leaving dishonest feedback, even if positive, is harmful. People want genuine reactions, not some guff the OP left to try and get people to read their fic instead. It's lying and manipulation, plain and simple.

Their attitude that their work is superior and deserving of people reading it, whereas the people they're targeting's work isn't - well it's disgusting.

Eh. I've left overly positive feedback for newbies who show potential, hoping to encourage them to write more (so that they'd get even better). I've seen too many times people who stop writing thanks to some scathing critique. It's fanfic, people are writing for fun, and they don't get paid. I don't understand the need to be overly critical about it - unless they specifically ask for it.

We all manipulate each other to some degree to get what we wish for.

Massive difference between being encouraging to a newbie and what the OP is describing. Also, nobody's saying be critical so not sure what your point is there.

But they have the same effect - encouraging new writers.

Is it really that big a deal if OP is doing something good, even though it's for a shitty reason?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-27 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. It does.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-27 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Why?

(Anonymous) 2021-05-27 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Jokes on them, I've never looked at the account of anyone who has left me feedback and I doubt I'm the only one.

It's only manipulative if it has a snowball's chance in hell of working though, which... this isn't exactly gambit of the century.
