160 I've been wondering if that show was any good. I saw the first episode and I loved the animation and art direction (then again, it was a first episode) but I never bothered to watch any more, and it's hard to judge based on one episode.

Speaking from my own experiences, it's a lot more complicated than you'd think. (I'd go into detail, but it'd be a lot of tl;dr and I plan on writing about it on my journal one of these days anyway.)

I don't know, I don't think it affected my social or professional life at all. I've always had a hard time connecting with other people and making friends, but it's more due to my own personality flaws than anything else. And anime hasn't prevented me from getting a degree or getting a job. I guess I could say it's had a slightly positive affect on my life because I met my husband at an anime convention, although if I had been a completely obsessive fan he wouldn't have had anything to do with me. (We initially connected because I bought a vinyl record of remixes of songs from Lupin III soundtracks.)

I'm sure that, unfortunately, it's affected some people's social/professional lives. It surely hasn't affected mine, but I think that maybe its effects were more subtle and internal -- e.g. as some strange, subconscious way to hold on to childhood, or as something that negatively affected my creative output (if that somehow makes any sense).

That little story about how you met your husband was cool, though! :-)

Hahah, I think you understand. :) For reference, I got into anime & manga when I was 10 years old and it's been a part of my life ever since I can remember. Even the profession I hold today was influenced by my hobby. I'm not going to spill my innards now, but I'm not so sure if my life could have been better or at least more interesting without it.

That's interesting! And a good example showing that hobby != inconsequential.

Well, my dream growing up was to be an animator, but that was based more on my love of American animation (I didn't really discover anime until I was 12 or 13).

It's pretty amazing. The animation never really falters and the story and character development is consistantly good. Even the bad episodes are still good compared to other shows.
