Sadly, a lot of people don't. Especially in this country with our wonderful educational standards.

Anybody who has the merest smidge of an interest in WWII history knows that. And I'm guessing anyone interested in Hetalia will at least know the basics.

I was just replying to DO YOU THINK PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS? "People" is pretty vague, you know.

I've never even heard of someone who didn't know about it - but then, I'm Canadian. I don't know, I can't take you at your word. People not knowing about it is just insane to me (and why would you even read Hetalia if you don't know the most basic events of the war?)

I have a really hard time believing that. We were learning about that incredibly early in school -- definitely before high school. And I'm from Nevada, so we've got pretty much the second worst education system in the country...

112. Maybe a few don't. But 'a lot' of people? America's educational system blows, but it doesn't blow quite that bad.

I'll say with most certainty that nearly all Americans know that we nuked Japan. They may not know any details at all past the fact that 'we dropped some kind of bomb on them sometime in the past whenever,' but I'm being generous. Ignorance doesn't cover it. You'd literally have to be brain-dead not to know that America nuked Japan.

In other words: Yeah, not buying it.

You know, it would actually be interesting to find out how many people don't know about it. I mean, I'm 20-something and I was gobsmacked when I found out that another girl who was my age didn't know what Auschwitz was. It completely blew my MIND. (It came up because there was an terrifically bad taste moral dilemma competition on a radio show and she was all "Ahahah... i don't get it. D:" when we were bitching about how bad taste it was.)

I'd hope people knew about the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, but it's not something I'd put money on. (Although tbh I think there'd be a lot more people who wouldn't know about Nagasaki than Hiroshima...)
