I like it as a narrative device, but oof, it's definitely not fun to actually experience it. I once dreamt I woke up in the guest room at my grandmother's house, but none of the doors or windows opened. I could hear my grandmother telling me to get out, but I couldn't leave the room. Then I woke up in my actual room and felt super disturbed because what the hell kind of dream was that? Plus my grandmother's been dead for over a decade, so hearing her voice in a nightmare was extra upsetting.

Oh, god, how creepy! I'm so sorry you experienced that.

I've had dreams about relatives that passed away, too, but nothing of that sort. Normally in mine, they just pop up for a brief time, and I don't really interact with them much, if at all, but I see them there...

..and yet their being there feels so real, to the point that when I wake up, I have to remind myself that, oh, yeah, they're not here.

Dreams are weird as fuck, they really are.
