It often happened to me and still happens to this day. The worst occurence was when I was little: I dreamt that I had woken up at night and that everything in my room was the same as in the real-world, except a figure on the side of my bed made of darkness/pure evil arised, loomed over me and started threatening me as I laid paralised on my bed. But I used to be able to have lucid dreams and to wake up on command. So I did my usual thing and I woke up... or so I thought. The "figure" told me something like "Hahahah! You can't wake up, it's not a dream". Then I tried again and I woke up... or so I thought. And it went on and on. I can't describe the terror
