This is why I not down bullet points super quick if I'm at work, or try and memorise key words about the scene to prompt me if I'm driving. Sometimes it even works!

I could've written this secret in my sleep, OP! Mostly it happens to me when I'm in bed and don't want to get up and write things down. Sometimes I make a note on my phone but most of the time I'm so tired I don't even want to do that and I promise myself I'll remember in the morning, but... :(

I have the same problem when making secrets for here. I'll think of a good one but forget it later :(

If you have Siri or something similar, you could always use the voice activation on your phone to dictate it while you drive!

That's *why* you're thinking of those ideas at that time - the rest of your brain is occupied, so the creative side runs free!

Yep! Shout-out to all the stories that I wrote when I was supposed to be listening to class!
pantswarrior: Laguna scratches his head. (huh?)

...This secret reminded me of some epiphany I had last night while I was trying to fall asleep about the fic I have been half-heartedly brainstorming. I remember thinking "omg, that is a twist. That alone might make it worth writing, because they'd have to adjust for that instead of business as usual."

Of course now I don't recall anything about it except that it involved some character telling another character that "you're not the [something]."

Are you me? That happens to me all the time. I try and write down some notes in my phone so I won't forget my ideas, but they're never as good later on as they were when I first thought of them.

Oh I feel you, thankfully I get my best ideas while dozing, so if I'm fast enough I'll quickly type down a fic idea in my notes on my phone and then do something with it. I wrote my last fic this way actually, had a brain-wave just before sleep but managed to type it on my phone before I'd forget the following day.

Or in the shower... brains are perverse creatures and like to torment us.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-04 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh same. I do my best writing in the shower. it drives me nuts lol
I have in the past been in the shower, thought of something really good, then bolted out of there as fast as possible to type it up. It never seems quite as good as when I first thought of it though. But that's what first drafts are for anyway!

There's a degree of giving your ideas the benefit of the doubt when that situation happens, OP. They're always really cool when they're fresh and new but when you have to write them... sigh. Still worth maybe noting them down, though.
