This. If you're friends you should be able to be open and honest about the disparity in what she's willing to take vs give. Also, if she has commented before about not watching things with subs it might just be that? Subs don't bother me but I know for some people (and for a lot of people with learning/reading disabilities) they're an impediment to enjoying media, but she should be able to say that to you.
