Can you recommend anywhere in particular? I've tried looking through goodreads but I've been caught out by a few bad books in their rec listings, so I'm a bit wary there.

AYRT What I enjoy is not necessarily going to be what you enjoy, anon. I'm a bit of a book fiend in that I'll read most anything, and old fashioned attitudes don't bother me if they're of their time, up to a point.

I love the Aubreyad (although it takes a while to get used

Oops! Accidentally pushed the ”Post comment” button.

I was about to say that if I read a negative review and the reviewer points out things I probably wouldn’t like in a book either, I know to avoid the one in question.

(And tbh, negative reviews are often also kind of entertaining to read)

I've been working my way through the Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman, and enjoying it.

Interdimensional book thieves librarians maintain a cosmic balance between the forces of order and chaos, while dashing or blundering through shenanigans in a variety of picturesque settings.

Kind of has a vintage Doctor Who vibe to it. Female lead, and she has some *interesting* relationships with other female characters (and a couple of guys, for good leavening.)

Books are relatively short, and the first in the series is pretty representative of the series as a whole if you want to try it.
