What shows/movies/books did you never finish for no reason?

(Anonymous) 2021-06-05 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Not ones you hated but ones you just sort of...stopped and never got around to finishing.

I do this all the time with shows. I think the most recent is Queen's Gambit. Just stopped watching for a few days and never finished it.

I do this a lot with games. Radiant Historia is the last one that comes to mind.

Though I think there's a reason. It's half-subconscious, but happens so often I have a theory. If I'm really enjoying a game, and I sense I'm getting near the end, I stop and do something else because I don't want it to be over.

This is exactly me, too.

Fresh off the Boat. I dunno why I didn't finish it because I do remember enjoying it, but I just kinda stopped keeping up with it and never picked it back up.

Wow, I did the same thing! Can't recall how far I got into it but stopped watching for no reason.

A lot really. If I learn how it ends and don't love it I'm out, if learn it doesn't have a good ending I'm done, if I lose steam, etc.

-Shadow and Bone
-Utopia (US version)
-I got half way through the first Dune book and lost steam
-Tru Blood
-Torchwood (after season 2)

Breaking Bad - it got too stressful to watch people being awful and ruining their lives and other peoples' lives
Better Call Saul - similar reasons
Supernatural - kinda boring
The Witcher - got tired of the female main character and her baby obsession

>got tired of the female main character and her baby obsession

I watched all of The Witcher but I fast forwarded thru a lot of her scenes. Netflix needs a 1.5x speed function like podcasts have.

Books? Moby Dick and Middlemarch. I get 3-5 chapters in and then just wander off. I'm hopeful that someday I'll make it through one of them, at least.

I had been hearing for years what a classic Moby Dick was but I got bored around the part where he kept insisting whales were fish and never finished it.

Brooklyn 99. I watched everything up to season 5 I think? Then just didn't watch the new seasons when they aired, still can't be bothered to either.

The Flash, I try to get back into it on occasion but my heart isn't really in it anymore, which does make me sad as I love Iris but the show has really dipped in quality(I'm aware CW shows are shit, but this was a fun romp for 3 seasons at least) since I fully stopped and it can't hoik me back in.

And a couple of Korean shows that I started just for something to watch, but tapped out on because they weren't my preferred genres and I got bored. Although in one case it was 100% the fault of Netflix miss-tagging the damn show, a romantic comedy it was not.

Word of Honor. I don't hate it: it's pretty and the two leads are good.

Mostly it's just that the rest of the cast is kind of, 'eh', I guess.

I watched up to S4 of Supernatural and then for some reason wandered away. And that was the period where the show was actually pretty good!

I wandered off from Parks & Rec in the final season, for literally no reason. Maybe I was just sad that it was about to be over, idk.

I haven't finished Man In The High Castle, but that's because I don't have Prime at the moment.

I watched the first three seasons of The West Wing and it was absolutely brilliant, but that was back when I relied on DVDs for content and I didn't have the money to buy more seasons at the time, and I ended up not continuing on with it. I will eventually. Though with the shitshow politics has become, it's going to feel a lot more like a wild fantasy than it used to.

I also quit watching a lot of shows when I really love them and I'm scared they're going to go down hill. I did that with Mad Men after S4 (though I do intend to go back and finish it, and it sounds like it never did go pronouncedly down hill). I quit watching Shameless after S3 for the same reason, and I think I might just stick with that decision.

Really liked the first episode of Shadow and Bone but I haven't managed to sit through the other ones yet. I'm still sitting on the last season of Longmire because I don't want it to be over even though it actually ended years ago and I'm late to the party lol.

the untamed, got partway through the flashback portion of the show and lost interest. that bit dragged way too much for me and cba trying to finish it.
