127 Heh, I really can't stand Kate Beaton, either. Mostly because the jokes aren't funny and her artwork seems so sloppy and unfinished. Her comics look like they were scribbled in a notebook during class or something. I think it's better than Hetalia, though.

170 I don't mind slash -- WHEN THERE'S SUFFICIENT SUBTEXT TO SUGGEST IT. I can't stand it when people slash two guys just because they're hot or they occupy the same room. The same thing goes for het pairings, really.

Why the specific requirement for subtext? I understand the opposition to pairings where two characters are thrown together regardless of how much sense they make as a couple, but that's more an issue of believable development (well, lack thereof) than anything else. In some cases - especially canons that leave a lot unsaid - characters without any subtext between them can be plausibly slashed if a writer can get a romance to work well with their personalities and situation.

Then why not do that for het pairings, too? Or femslash? Admit it, it's just about the pretty boys. (Although I don't understand why fangirls can't just use the girl in het pairings as a self-insert.)

How does that relate to what I actually said?

I was making an objection to the idea that non-canon pairings of any sort ought to be supported by subtext. The original commenter said "Same thing goes for het", so I figured they would take my reply in the same vein. Other than an accidental choice of words that could have been better ("plausibly slashed", which I meant as "plausibly paired up out of canon" rather than a specific reference to male/male pairings), I wrote in general terms. I have nothing to admit other than a hasty, ambiguous choice of phrase.
