131. I know I'm missing the big point of this secret, but I really must ask, what's homoerotic about Gundam Wing? I couldn't see it when the dub first came to the states and I still can't see it now, even in its original state. Quatre's about the only remotely gay thing I can think of, and even then I have my doubts. Sorry, I know I'm missing the whole point here.

Outside of whatever it was that was going on between Quatre and Trowa, it doesn't really have that much homoeroticism. Not in the canon.

The fanon on the other hand, that is another story.

I know the fandom was overrun with it even back when slash/shounen ai/yaoi/whatever wasn't the phenomenon/plague that it is now, but I just don't see where people are getting anything when they call the actual show homoerotic.

Maybe this is something I'm just not meant to understand.

p.s. I'm not trying to sound like I'm slash-bashing, because I actually don't mind slash (just not in GW, for some reason). I just don't get when it seems like people claim the canon source has something.

It was the promo art that was geared towards girls and the fact that director wanted to attract a female audience. And what resulted greatly affected the doujin market and brought on a generation of fujoshis, some can argue that it brought on a boom in the original BL market as well.

The actual canon had very little subtext however as reasons already stated...

However, a small franchise of UC fanboys still damn it was the Gundam was ruined the franchise for letting the girls in the party or whatever nonsense because of the promo and the fujoshi base.

Huh. I never really looked into the promotional aspect of it.

As I said to one of the other replies, though, it still doesn't really explain where people are apparently seeing actual subtext in the canon.
