135 I believe this is true. I think the reason each one gets bigger and crazier and happens with more frequency is because they're making a difference, and more people are willing to speak up.

123. I agree with the premise that fandom avoids slashing black characters as much as possible, but I'm blanking on who in the comics Tony could be slashed with. He doesn't talk to or spend time with War Machine in comics the way he does in the movie. And there are annoyingly few non-white Avengers characters. D:

123 I think the "since May" is the crucial part of the secret, which to me implied "fans who got into the comic from the movie." The whole Captain America/Iron Man thing predates all of that and as you say, the comics don't have the same dynamic as the movie. I think there's something to be said for people going that far not to slash him with basically the one man he has a relationship with in the movie; it's weird that there weren't piles of Tony/James slash after the movie, and even weirder that so many movie fans went running after the comics. Of the comics people I have nothing to say and certainly what you say about Avengers is totally true!

Ooh, I missed that part of the secret. Yeah, the point is taken. :/ I was pretty bewildered by the lack of Tony/Rhodey movieverse stuff too, and it is weird (and very like fandom) to go out of their way like that.

Comicsverse War Machine, by the way, is still awesome.

I do think it's odd that so many slashers who are in Iron Man movie-verse fandom are all over the Tony/Pepper het instead of Tony/Rhodey. I expected much more slash for the movie in general, but some people whom I've never seen write anything else but slash are all producing nothing but Tony/Pepper fic. Which is curious.

However, I'm mostly consumed with intense ship-war-style rage at the secrets poster for bashing my OTPO right now, especially since I just finished a somewhat stressful two days at comiccon struggling with the fact that I'm still so angry/hurt by Steve being killed off that just the sight of, say, someone cosplaying Bucky!Captain America made me feel sick. How dare she say I don't love Steve as much as I love Tony.

I didn't think they were bashing the ship as such, or certainly the shippers who were floating around pre-movie. I think they're very specifically saying, "Wow, those movie-verse people actually went back to the comic-verse to avoid writing slash with a black man." I mean, movie-verse people usually avoid comic-verse (usually because it's so confusing) so it's weird that there's pretty much no movie-verse slash.

So I'm thinking that if you're even aware of what's going on in the comic, yeah, she doesn't mean you at all. And my condolences!

She may not have meant me, but she pissed me right the hell off anyway, by implying that Steve/Tony shippers don't really like Steve, when I'm still so very angry over what's been done to Steve in canon.

Trust me, I am also still very upset at what happened to Steve. And let me just say that I by no means am talking about you. I enjoy your fics very much and think they are among the best things about the fandom.

However, it's also because I care about Steve (and Tony, for that matter) so much that I felt compelled to make this secret. A lot of the recent fic, IMHO, has very shallow representations of Steve. He's very complex character, but not outwardly so-- his quirks and issues tend to be very understated. Therefore, it is all too easy for a newbie (especially with one rather unfamiliar with the canon) to portray him as a generic blond guy who happened to be a superhero/WWII veteran. They don't write the man I look up to, and it bothers me.

In that case, I've misinterpreted your secret and please excuse my wank-tastic little rant later in the coments (the "grr, arg, how dare you think I don't like Steve, I hate you!" one).

I'm both a very partisan OTPer, and kind of on edge after being continually reminded of Marvel's current canon at ComicCon. So, if you've already seen that, I apologize for going off on you, and if you haven't gotten to it yet, please disregard it when you do *is kind of embarassed now*
