brand new fandomer - oh dear. i like them a lot, and do not enjoy schmoop. should i be scared? O.o

Ahaha, sorry, it's not really like that. It's just that there is quite a crowd of fangirls who display no real thought or understanding of the characters or the nature of the show, which leads them to write the schmoop and me to believe that they wouldn't have so taken to the pairing if it weren't 1.) canon and 2.) pretty.

When this fandom really took off, my friend and I used to laugh about how our other ships involved hours of dissecting subtext in order to get at the justification (icon very, very related), whereas with Jack/Ianto, well, the fangirls didn't really have to earn it.

I want to make it clear that I've got nothing against the general fangirl population for this ship because they get to have the canon--I LOVE that a relationship like this gets its deserving screentime. I just take issue with the ones who write the schmoop. Basically, I ship Jack/Ianto because I see chemistry, and justification, and complimentary characters--not because it's easy and it's there. Schmoop in this fandom demonstrates a lack of understanding of the characters and, well, if you don't understand the characters, why are you shipping them?
