I took Feo's point to be about the socially-constructed and arbitrary nature of racial definitions fwiw

That'd make sense if Feo had mentioned something that wasn't a nationality, like how does OP decide whether to read books from Jewish (-American, considering they are legally white if not explicitly something else over here, although socially it's a whole nother thing) or Latino men or if OP had said something that linked nationality and race, but that's not what happened.

I don't think you can challenge the variable nature of race by suggesting a metric nobody said they used.

I picked Italians because I recently read a Tumblr post where an Italian complained that they were treated as white whenever someone wanted to insult them, but treated as POC whenever someone wanted to "protect" them.

okay, that sounds like the type of thing you use to comment on a secret that actually does something similar, not a post you simple have no reason to believe is doing anything similar.

that also sounds like the type of post where you see if italians of various races and ethnicities feel the same before you use it as an example of anything, but honestly, that's not my business.
