107. It's supposed to be a movie that reinvents the zombie genre. Have you ever heard of Fido? That does the same exact thing. A genre isn't going to remain the same forever. Also, "undead" doesn't necessarily have to refer to the heart stopping. Their brains are basically dead if you think about it.

Yes I have seen Fido, loved it in fact, but at least the zombies in that movie were dead. The fact is that zombies, by definition, are dead, or undead if you like. Either way they aren't alive like the people in that movie were. And since when does being infected by a virus = being brain dead?

They're supposed to be the "infected", but calling them zombies isn't a crime really, they're within genres. Zombies have evolved over the course of films, Romero changed them into what most of us consider zombies, and that didn't happen until years after they first appeared as a concept.

Zombie movies that were made after 28 days later also borrow heavily from Boyle's vision, so they at least contributed to zombie horror.

Honestly, I think you're reading into this way too much. Even the creators of 28 Days Later weren't as anal about it and called it a new take on the zombie genre. Check the production notes for the film at IMDB if you don't believe me.

So, you can either: a)trust that the dudes who made the movie knew what they were talking about and doing or b)obsess so much over minute details and aspects of the movie that you end up making a mountain out of a molehill like you're doing right now.

Because the infected don't think for themselves and only know how to maim and kill. Again, the movie is reinventing the zombie genre. The fact that they're alive shouldn't really matter.
