Where in the Med. are you from? My granny on my Mom's side was from Spain and emigrated to Honduras when she was a kid.

Mum's side is Sicilian/Southern Italian with roots further back in Greece. Look, some people grew up getting taught "OMG NON-WHITE PEOPLE ARE STRANGE AND DIFFERENT," and recognizing and avoiding internalized racism doesn't come easily (and no, this certainly doesn't excuse people that don't bother). Shouldn't it be a positive thing when people are trying?

It's a blatent misconception. And it's disgustingly pitying. AND it's rather pathetically ignorant. There's more than enough literature out there with lead characters who are not white and not written with "misconceptions" or some bullshit. If you're old enough to type pretty seekrits here and haven't come across any, not even on TEH INTERNETS, you pretty well have to be TRYING to be stupid about it.
