Coming from a fandom that apparently can't take the fact that Hayate has a canon girlfriend in Yuugao, so they go and slash him with a guy he never once interacts with in the series--hell, Genma isn't even introduced in the manga until after Hayate's death.

It's like KakaIru, writ smaller, except Kakashi and Iruka actually had one panel of interaction, compared to Genma and Hayate's grand total of none.

I think part of the reason this secret gave me such a WTF reaction is that I had no idea Genma/Hayate was such a big fanon pairing in this fandom. Mostly because, yeah, I remember Genma showing up only after Hayate died. Usually if I see a secret like "Matt to my Mello" or "Iruka to my Kakashi", I would just assume that the OP is taking the well-established fanon tradition and running with it.

Also extremely WTF: that fan art appears to have Hayate living in a shack and emulating L from Death Note :|

It's not huge, but it's definitely there. And that there's about 10 times more Genma/Hayate stuff around than Yuugao/Hayate really chaps my ass. Yuugao is awesome despite being in the manga for approximately five seconds, and needs more love.

I see Genma/Hayate doujinshi all the time on sale sites. I've never once seen a Yuugao/Hayate one.

I'll bet they did that because Hayate and L both have that messy hair/dark circles under the eyes thing going on.
