Unironically: Look up anime recommendation lists. The genre is swarmed with less than good shows nowadays but if you dig up recommendations and filter by your tastes you're bound to find something that you'll enjoy and fill this particular need. Western animation has been slowly improving in terms of shows aimed at adults, but there's still plenty to go.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't most popular anime broadly aimed at teenagers?

SA

There's anime for every demographic you can think of anon! Anime aimed at adult women is called Josei and anime aimed at adult men is named seinen. Usually the better known adult works and stuff are labelled under seinen (think stuff like Paprika, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, etc.) but that's just the tip of the iceberg. There's movies and shows for everyone. Some big josei examples are Nana, Chihayafuru, Natsuyuki Rendezvous, Emma, etc.).

Of course! There's definitely all kinds of different anime. But my impression is that the majority of series that get made, especially in the past 10-20 years, is directed at teenage audiences, whether male or female.

The majority are generally aimed at teenagers but there's usually at least 1-2 older-aimed shows per season (I would recommend Odd Taxi out of this season's offerings). As anon above mentioned, a good rec list can help narrow it down to find something worth watching.

No more than popular Western media. (MCU could also be described as aimed at teenagers)

Most Japanese anime is aimed at teenagers and older, although there are of course children's ones.

Some of these have been mentioned already, but for a start try Akira, Paprika (anything by Satoshi Kon really), Ghost in the Shell, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, anything by Makoto Shinkai, Violet Evergarden, Death Parade, Hellsing, Pincess Jellyfish, Mushi-shi (some of these are series, but if you look them up you can see what sort of range anime covers).

Most of these are available in dubbed versions if you don't like reading subs.

There's lots of animatated content for adults, but it does necessitate taking a step into foreign media (e.g. Japan) and wadding through some bad to mediocre stuff. But there's definately a lot of it (including whole decades of older stuff - and animation doesn't age badly, when itw as well done in the first place).
