I'm legit confused as to how "Livin' On a Prayer" can be considered anti-union. Like. People don't get paid when they're on strike, so the protagonist has no money. That's it that's the entire reference.

RIGHT?? If it was anti-union, would Johnny not be a scab? The fact that he's down on his luck means that he considers standing with the union to be more important than getting paid!

Yeah, Johnny is on strike with his union, that's why they're livin' on a prayer. Definitely not anti-union!

Sometimes they do - strike pay is a thing, if a union's strong enough to have a good war chest and the strike doesn't drag on for too long. But it's only a fraction of their normal pay, so it would still be difficult to get by, especially in the time of Ronald 'disappointed he wasn't born in time to be a Pinkerton' Reagan.

My strike pay was minuscule and would have been even lower in the 80s. Certainly not enough to live on long-term, hence the prayer.

Yes, that's exactly what I said.
