it is for type 2.
overeating, constantly high blood sugar from over-sweetened processed food will make you sick.
not over a year or 2 or 5, but in the long run definitely.
insuline resistance, pancreatic dysfunction, heart issues.
If you add more factors, genetic disposition, alcohol, high cholesterole, little or no exercise, it's a nearly guaranteed diabetes type 2 situation. (keyword: metabolic syndrome)
the only reason for hobbits to not be diabetic much (which i might guess some might be) would be that they're are outdoorsy / very active in farming.
