(Anonymous) 2021-06-25 01:48 am (UTC)(link)Chalo is the artist of the series, while SoulKat was the main writer and ID_FOx the secondary writer. At first, the comic has nothing out of the ordinary, and I'd arguably consider it harmless as it was just starting. A farm plot, characters that make deus ex machinas, ancient dbz story and powers, and so on.
However, the seams of those troubles began to form during a Harvest Festival. Taffy and Miles, a cat character that was supposed to be a useless asshole for comedy, broke up during the comic, which caused an uproar as people came to hate Miles for becoming an even bigger asshole.
The biggest shit happened perhaps during the fairies storyline in which they sabotaged the resident child AI. From what I remember from ID_Fox's statements outside of the official forum at the time, he was NOT happy with the arc, and specifically vented with the way SoulKat treated it all. On a point that unfortunately falls on Chalo, is the fact that said "dramatic" story arc had constant boob shots in supposedly serious and sad moment; and even a recent 'serious' comic showing a girl that had been reportedly killed was displayed with a photo of ice cream falling on her boobs. Again, the guy can draw what he wants, but that sort of stuff ruins the story.
Among other things that happened, and this was in the character development front, was SoulKat's hatred for plus-sized characters. One time, a fan had drawn Taffy as a fat girl, which caused SoulKat to become livid and angrily say it was an insult. Things got even crazier when Chalo, the comic's artist, cheerfully stepped in to say he actually really liked the drawing, and was okay with people drawing his characters as fat as they want. Which, made SoulKat throw a tantrum and accuse Chalo of making things worse and "making everyone side against him." After some time, SoulKat and Chalo supposedly got into an agreement, after which it became far less common to see Chalo on the forums.
Of note: There used to be two legitimately plus-sized characters in the Las Lindas universe: Cocoa, a panda girl; and Tila Sunrise, a snow leopard woman. Both characters, in spite of being fat, were still really beloved by the fandom because they were chubby. However, current portrayals has them be merely "buxom," I presume for the same cause above.
To top it all off, Miles, who was supposed to be some random dumb jerk that was supposed to be a constant victim of karma, eventually became SoulKat's creator's pet, got a comic series starring him that retconned his origin story to make him "cool", managing to get Rachel as a girlfriend (a character that explicitly hated people like him, must be stated).
And something else I forgot to state, he had both Taffy and Randal marry, simply because he didn't want Randal to be perceived as homosexual, which during my time was a common joke in the fandom due to his cheerful and affectionate personality (playfully, though, as he was and probably still is a very beloved character).
By now, though, Katbox has closed, ID and SoulKat seem to no longer have a hand in writing Las Lindas (with the later being off the grid), the comic moved to Kemono Cafe, and Chalo seems to be the sole creator by now. I admit I don't know what else has happened, save for the few times I've turned to look during said nostalgia.
