Dust levels are really high here right now, and I've had a massive sinus headache all day. Just woke up from a nice nap, though.

My room now has a bookshelf, so I can start unpacking book boxes. Also, the box with my nice swimsuit was brought in, so I can wear that one to the spa on Sunday rather than the one I don't really like.

I've been listening to a lot of music on Youtube again. Some weirder stuff. Fictional anthems for fictional governments of one kind or another (a lot of Star Wars), war drum music, Viking music, a bunch of battle music Youtube composers have created, and some video game soundtrack music (particularly songs with voice and not just orchestra).

Also, Rudy Giuliani's bar license in NY has been suspended, and he's on the path to being disbarred. I couldn't be more thrilled at this. As a lawyer I'm offended by the existence of his license. He brings shame to the profession and should be disbarred.

I've gotten the first jab of the C-19 vaccine. No side effects yet, but it's only been 10 hours

Nothing much. It was windy as hell today. Combined with the heat, it made for a terrible outdoor experience. The tomatoes plants are not doing great after that.

The weird meeting that encompassed our entire IT department and was called less than 48 hours before it happened with no Zoom option, and the college president was going to be there? Where my boss immediately asked his boss "We're not all being laid off are we?" and his boss just said it was nothing to worry about...

I was exempted by my boss because of my health, so I had to wait on the Discord for someone to come in and tell me what had happened...

WE ALL GOT 20% RAISES.

Apparently the president was there because he wanted to make sure we knew this was no whim, from the top down everyone was on board with this and we deserved it.

And then we found out one of our guys who just quit but was still hanging out on the Discord sometimes decided to come back too. :D

I've let mint grow roughshod over my garden box and now I've ripped out a huge amount to make some essential oil. My kitchen smells like *M*I*N*T* and in a few months I'll have made something with all those weeds.

The person who broke into my yard two days ago took a bunch of rags and old clothes in a box the cats used as a bed, which I didn't care about at all... and a rug my mom crocheted decades ago. She died four years ago. I wish I'd noticed the woman had taken it before my neighbor shooed her out of his yard.

The Great Wall is a movie I started watching and couldn't make it through. But I really love the soundtrack.

I've never played and Elder Scrolls game, but the soundtracks are across the board amazing.

Also never played Warframe games, but I really like the music and especially the two songs from the series.

The tv show Vikings has great music, even though I couldn't make it past the first episode. Also never watched Outlander, but I like a lot of the music.

I hate the movie Hook, but I love the music. Also not a fan of any of the Conan movies, but the original two have great music.

Soukaigi comes immediately to mind. Someone sent me a ton of tracks for it ages ago because it's by the same composer as Secret of Mana, and holy crap. The entire thing is great but there are some tracks I just put on repeat all day for awhile. "Quake" is just straight FIRE.

I've listened to a lot of musical soundtracks for shows I've never actually seen, which is mostly fine - generally enough of the story is communicated in the songs that I can get the gist, or I just like a few of the songs and the story doesn't matter to me.
In the case of 'A Little Night Music' [Sondheim, 1973], though, learning the full details of the plot really rather tainted my enjoyment of the music! I could handle the sexism and the snobbery and self-absorbed characters, but (spoilers for a fifty year old show based on a seventy year old book) that it ends with a woman running off with her stepson, another woman being ecstatic her cheating husband is also possessive (because that means he really loves her~!), and the main character delighted that her ex came crawling back only because his new wife left him!
I still like the songs, but dear god in heaven I want these women to get some fucking self respect!

I thought about posting this there, but I didn't want to seem like I'm attacking OP for their own opinion, when I think they're valid.

I'm a contrarian about how fanservice should be handled, and I think I prefer stories where it states it's Porn With Plot, instead of having a detailed plot with moments of fanservice that throws me off. Fanservice moments to me are something that exists in a fantasy suspension of disbelief, where it doesn't matter if a character's boobs are jiggling as if they're possessed in public. If the show keeps trying to mix serious moments and fanservice stuff, then I start feeling second-hand embarrassment for the characters who are way too scantily clad in public lol.

And about ten years ago a few weeks ago, on a page with about 1,000-1,300 comments, and about 15-27 secrets, someone posted "Only [20?] Secrets? FS is truly dying."

Lmao. Oh, anon, if only you could see this comm now, would you consider it in a vegetative state? I personally don't mind the smaller community size, as a lurker/anon, and it was only a few years after lurking on this site that I decided to interact. And it's given me some great recs (fandom and non fandom related) and is pretty much the only place o interact with people online.

Elders/old lurkers of FS, what were some golden moments of FS, back in its heyday?

I just remember the ABSOLUTE CHAOS of conversations in the old days where people would be like "5, 6, 10, 17" in their title line and then post their comments and people would interact with secrets all over the damn place and it was impossible if you were OP of the secret to keep track without using the search/find function to look for your number. PURE CHAOS GOOD LORD IT'S SO MUCH MORE CIVILIZED THESE DAYS.

I remember the dozen or so ways to say "I'd tap/hit that" and I found all of them funny.

I also remember when Hetalia came on the scene and people made shipping secrets with flags. God that was confusing.

I remember when all the secrets were blacked out (in protest of Sopa/Pipa iirc) and people in the comments made up secrets to react to. I can't remember any specifics but it would be things like "I agree that that scene in Mulan was overly dramatic but damn was the animation pretty" and "Anyone know why there's a tardis in the corner?" for the same secret. And some people even went and MADE the secrets based on the comments.
