149 - I do, or try to, at least. I don't make a ton of icons, but when I do, it follows this format: the-sweet_keyword.ext. When I save, I make sure to save them with the icon maker's username (or community name, if they prefer) right then and there, plus a keyword. It takes all of five seconds to look it up as you're grabbing the icon and (hopefully) commenting. So yeah, iconmakers could go and rename all their files; it wouldn't take much on their end, but the problem with that is that some places (TinyPic comes to mind) rename the file names and change the extension, too. In the end, it's the person using the icon who should bother to save it with the proper credit and a keyword in the filename. If you want to use it, take the time to write that info in as you'll best remember it!

159 - How is it that you manage to spell the (godawful, wish-she-would-just-grow-a-brain) author's name wrong when you have her name on the book cover images RIGHT on your secret?

Beyond that, don't box yourself in to the pathetic archetypes that Meyer created. You're not Bella; your ex isn't Edward, and your current bf isn't Jacob. Besides, Jacob wasn't all that great, either: he bordered on being a rapist, was hardly a good sounding-board of a friend, and ended up believing that he'd never really loved Bella; he loved her ovum-that-would-be-Nessie. WTF? Why would you want yourself or your relationships to even REMOTELY resemble that? Be yourself and let your boyfriend (and ex) be themselves, too, not reflections of badly-written characters. If things don't work out between you and your current bf, it's not because your "twu wuv" actually stayed away from you for your own good but he still truly, madly, deeply loves you and it's just Evil Fate keeping you apart. It's not because your current bf is a manipulative but somehow well-meaning guy who wants to change you (what, like the [vampiric] ex who devastated you didn't do that? Oh wait, that was Edward) and ends up being in love with your ovum/little sister/mother/whomever and not really YOU. Yeesh.

You can't blame anything Nessie-related (including thinking he'd never loved Bella just her ovum that wasn't even a twinkle in her mother's eye yet) on poor Jacob, he had no choice in the matter, it was all Smeyer....and Jacob was never close to being a rapist, borderline or otherwise. Kissing someone unasked in a desperate attempt to show them another option when they're about to kill themself is not rape--he would never have forced himself on her sexually.

To be technical, NOTHING about the characters is the character's fault; it's ALL SMeyer's fault. As for whether Jacob might have taken that kiss a bit farther is a matter of debate. I'd like to believe SMeyer did a wonderful job at portraying him as an all-around nice guy who just wasn't sparkly enough to be Bella's love interest, but he was made to be an antagonist when contrasted with Edward. The things HE did were supposed to be nice (at first) but, compared to Sparkly Vampire Boy, more repulsive to Bella (and thus, us, the readers).

Had SMeyer not been vehemently clear that Jacob's love was LOVE, and not imprinting (in other words, that he had NOT imprinted on Bella herself), people could have assumed that his urge for imprinting would have let/urged him [to] go farther with her. The only reason why that didn't happen with the other wolves was because they imprinted on KIDS (with the exception of the original pack leader and his gf, but that's a whole other can of worms).

[identity profile] sherrilina.livejournal.com 2009-02-12 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh come on, you know what I mean--from the start imprinting was introduced as something completely devoid of free will, over which the person in question had NO control whatsoever, *within* the verse itself--so obviously Jacob is indeed not to blame for the imprint and anything related to it, since it was not his choice to do so (that's the rules of imprinting as defined by the author), whereas Bella's or Edward's decisions, in which they do have the full use of free will, whatever Bella might like to pretend, are a different animal entirely.

And again, that kiss was not that far...

I know the imprinting has no free will associated with it, but it's still made to look like a GOOD thing, and that it's perfectly plausible (nay, unavoidable) that true love will result from it. We don't know for the first two books or so that Jacob HASN'T imprinted on Bella.

All I'm saying is, Edward and Jacob BOTH aren't the greatest of specimens of male behavior in literature. Besides, "Twilight" is generally a crappy piece of literature; why would you want to associate real people with that (unless you were trying to show how manipulative/selfish/controlling/weird/etc. they were)?
