Sure they did.
-The Captain had to not only decide to change his life -- and the lives of every human aboard the Axiom along with it -- but he played head games with Auto and literally, physically wrestled control away from him. It was a big deal that the Captain learned about Earth and stood up under his own power because he'd never cared enough to do those things before.
-Every Axiom human had to learn to live, instead of just passively existing. Like John and Mary waking up to the world outside their video screens, and being astonished at things they never knew were there.
-The humans began remaking civilization from scratch, as implied by the credits.
