I redownloaded Sims 3 recently and it's super slow on my computer so I didn't get to really enjoy the experience and I'm content with Sims 4 but I do miss a lot of the old features. The mod community though is exceptional and is the one saving grace of this game.

I mean it's kind of objectively true that it's missing many features, least of which is story progression. Instead of being a life sim it's kind of... A build-buy sim. Nothing progresses outside your home without mods.

On one hand, Sims 3 is a laggy mess even on newer PCs.
On the other... Sims 4 lacks so many of the interesting features Sims 3 had and I think the graphics style was a major step backwards. Which is a matter of personal taste but I never got into 4 because the style was just too goofy and cartoony for me.

I feel like fandom saved me from wasting money on Sims 4. I was so excited about it, I bought a new laptop back in 2014 so I could be sure it would run. Then the reviews came in. Then the reviews from fans came in. And holy shit I feel like I dodged a 65$ toddler-and-pool-less bullet. I've stuck with Sims 3 and I'll probably stay there until or unless Sims 5 is better in a major way.

BUT! Sims 4 has a beautiful build options for Sims and Houses and if that's what I liked doing I'd probably have enjoyed it. I'm sorry a thing is less fun for you. I hope you can brush it off and have lots of fun again.

If it helps, they’ve added pools and toddlers back and I think the base game is like $5 now if you want to check it out. It’s still flat without some of the expansions and you definitely need mods to actually make the life simulation part relevant though.

Now I'm set in my ways and I've dedicated enough time/money/computer memory to Sims 3 I feel no motivation to move over.

Sims 5 tho, if that ever happens I'm listening.

I miss horses. Other than that I think Sims 4 is the better game.

Out of curiosity, what does the sims fandom think about sims 5?
