I don't have Twitter, but I deleted my Facebook. It was a little hard at first, but now I feel great about it because I don't have to deal with crazy nonsense.

The only things making Facebook bearable for me are the niche and overly specific groups and haha reacting to the memes on my feed. I don't really trust it for news sources and everyone who's unpleasant gets the boot immediately. I feel like the whole platform is dying a slow, drawn out death and it'll be a matter of time until it gets as vacant as other platforms.

It's such a good feeling!

I HAVE to stay on social media because I don't have any friends much online or IRL. 🤷🏼‍♀️😳😬

Twitter can be a very very toxic place but I don't understand how it can become a perpetual drama feed for people, yes, I know it happens, but there's plenty of tools to curate your experience there like blockchains, muting, making your account private and so on. Congrats on the freedom and moving on, I figure it's a great time saver to not endlessly scroll through it as well.

the same way tumblr was a perpetual drama feed for so many people so much that in fandom all you have to do is look at a fellow fan, roll your eyes, sigh, say "tumblr" and they'll respond "OH GOD I know right?"

That is, no amount of actual internet tools nor taking time out of your day to curate your feed, block, unfollow, scroll past, etc was - or is - ever enough to stop people from bingeing on misery. Social media's sucess hinges on making it difficult to curate, easier to just hang out for hours refreshing and doomscrolling, and rewarding bad behavior by increasing likes and followers for that whole arbitrary-internet-points experience. Drama always gets rewarded, always has since Jerry Springer.

A friend of mine started retweeting/commenting on discourse and suddenly that was all that Twitter was recommending to me. I eventually had to give up and unfollow this friend because no amount of trying to curate was fixing the problem of Twitter constantly promoting discourse to me. Then I had to unfriend another couple of friends because I didn't like the content they were favoriting and it was being shown to me. It was TIRING, I had to spend the majority of my time blocking shit instead of scrolling through my feed. I eventually just deleted Twitter outright. Not fucking worth it.

Oh! There's a way to get rid of recommendations and likes on your timeline if you'd like the tip.

I took a huge twitter break for a while. I just couldn't do it.

I find myself using it more now, but mostly just to broadcast my thoughts or upcoming plans for writing posting/youtube stuff. (Nothing huge like, I'm not going to grumble about R&C Rift's Apart for instance.) And I'm not going through the "home" or "Friends" feed.

I'm surprised I still get likes really.

Well, you do you, OP. Glad you feel good!

I like my Twitter. I like getting political news and seeing what's going on in DC and the states re: laws, voting, etc.

I block asshats and don't follow the weird pages and mostly just groove to NPR and AOC and whatnot.

Following politicians on twitter isn't news.
