I co-modded a fanfic "book club" for a few years, back in the LJ days. We would rec about one fic per week for the book club's followers to read, and then we would discuss it over the course of that week. Ideological bigotry/prejudice wasn't allowed, and everyone who participated made the effort to keep their comments civil, and to keep the discussion about the fic not the author, but beyond that everyone's honest opinions were always welcome.

It was rad, and I have wished for a book club like that in every single fandom I've been in since. I've never tried to start one, though, because in the current fandom climate, and with tumblr essentially being the main hub, and with tumblr functioning how it does, it would be a recipe for disaster.
