As pissed off as I was at Belle's costumes (and the prince's blue coat in the last scene that looked like cheap panne velvet), at least they fit and were well constructed, and everyone aside from Belle had historical fantasy-ish clothes where even if they didn't match a specific period, still worked as a cohesive whole. Which is one reason Belle's dresses and especially her ballgown pissed me off--it stood out in a modern lines, modern fabrics way from everything else in the movie, despite being well constructed to be shown off while dancing.

The dress in the photo looks like someone who could only sort of sew had a dollar store sewing kit, some curtains, and two hours to come up with a mockup before the photoshoot.
