What's the worst thing you've ever written?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-06 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
This question is brought to you by the rediscovery of an old notepad full of unbelievable shite. XD

Also the only fic I ever deleted. I was young and very naive and thought I was very very clever and very very funny for writing a suggestive fic about Snape and Harry and rods and balls with the "clever" reveal being that they're actually quite innocently playing billiards in a hand/eye coordination lesson.

That's actually kind of adorable, nonny. I think we all wrote stuff like that when starting out didn't we? I wrote a Mary Sue fic when I was a teen. Talk about yikes!

Chav AU, Jensen/Jared written way back when.

It was so badly done. The characters were nothing like J2, their names were essentially pasted on. It was a Romeo/Juliet style story with each of them being from rival estates but God. The whole thing was SO BAD.Full body cringing here just remembering it. Blllaaaaaaah.

The first couple fics I wrote, which were Harry Potter, and stupidly, awfully short. Not one-shot short. I tried to do chaptered fics, but the chapters weren't even long enough to be a one-shot when put together. I had no idea what I was doing, basically.

Pretty much everything I wrote in middle school and high school. So many perfect Mary Sues and all the pretty anime boys who never resembled their canon selves falling in love with them.

So much terrible self-insert, truly Mary-Sue shite that thankfully never got beyond my own hard drive. I don't regret it though because it gave me a place to start figuring out how to write, but I would not air any of it to other's eyes because... yeesh, it's bad, lol.

Also I think some of my early fics on ff.net are... questionable, but I can't bring myself to delete them as I have a sort of fond 'ah yes, this is where I started' feelings about them. Looking back at stuff you made that sucks can really help showcase how far you've come tbh and I do like it.

Tropey porn, but it was an attempt to see if I could write tropey porn. The trial was a success and also very bad

Phonetic. Accents.

Combined with writing about adult characters but having middle school life experience, and WLiiA? rpf, my old notebooks are UNREADABLE. I trashed a bunch when I had to move house-- yes, the experience of writing a bunch of garbage did eventually lead to me writing things that aren't garbage, I'm glad that I spread my tiny wings and that I gave myself permission to write so many dumb things, and that I grew because of it. But I don't need to hold onto any of them.

(I do regret losing some things I wrote in college, however-- it was BAD, but it was the kind of bad where there were salvageable bits and it could be a fun exercise to rewrite some of those stories as the writer I am today. But the stuff I wrote at fourteen? I'm happier not looking back at the actual content)

...I mean if we're not counting stuff like the "book" about a crab I wrote when I was three or the poetry I wrote when I was six? XD (I know those happened only because my parents still have them.)

Hmm... I'm guessing it was something for the Phoenix Wright kink meme. I wrote a lot of stuff that I wasn't really into for that, including a lot of just random commentboxed crap because the prompt made something pop into my head. Tons of that stuff I never archived anywhere or even put my name to. Not sure which was the worst though.

My absolute cringe-inducing early-2000s preteen emo self insert Yu-gi-oh fics where emo mary sue is everyone's best friends with Marik and Bakura; giving them advice on how to seduce Malik and Ryou into being their boyfriends.
Preteen me who's extensive knowledge on romance was largely based on Disney movies, the tv series Roswell and Buffy. I wasn't good but at least I remember having fun going into deep detail on their mall goth outfits, which was clearly the most important part of the fic.

Oh god, I just had a flashback to all the terrible Thiefshipping fics I wrote in the early 2000s. Luckily I didn’t have internet, so they all disappeared when my ancient computer finally bit the dust.

I had a babysitter try to feed me cold spaghettios one time. I hid them in my cup. When she washed dishes they all floated up to the top of the sink. :/

AYRT and eeuuuggghhh. My hatred stems from me throwing up after eating Spaghettios once, but I think yours takes the cake. That's nasty.

I used to coop write these... stories?, plays?, dialogs? with my friends in middle school and high school. They were the weirdest, most meandering, nonsensical things.
One friend gathered up all the notebooks our senior year and said she was going to type them up and send it to us but, naturally, she never did so now I only have a few pages I had typed up myself to remember them by.

Saint Seiya stuff from my earliest times in fandom--a crossover that made no sense, gratuitous rapefic, excessive angst, bad porn...
The good thing is, if my first stuff was the worst, then I got undubitablly better since!!
(I also did terrible art that I rediscovered last year, and that I look back on quite fondly. Aww past!self how could you ever have been so young and naïve and unashamed?)
