I find watching the shows easier as I tend to find a lot of the translations to be a bit clunky to read, which I presume is more about how hard it is to translate something in an engaging way rather than the story being shit.

As it is I haven't gotten along with all of them, I personally haven't liked any of MXTX's work, either written or the visual adaptations, and she's very highly rated. But just because something is popular doesn't mean that we will personally engage with it. It happens. Move on and find something else.

I find this too. I really like the shows, but the translations are labours of love and while I appreciate their existence, I find them really difficult to enjoy.

I tend to read them after I've watched a show as more of a 'lets see how the story differs' or to get an explanation as to some plot-bits the shows might have left out/fumbled on. Because as stories for me... yeah I can't really get into them, but reading them as like a text-book for the shows? Much easier for me to get through them.

Again: not on the OG authors but on how hard translating is.

Yeah, same.
