I disagree with this secret in the sense that there is no reason well-crafted, simple, workmanlike genre stories should be exclusively the domain of children's entertainment. I don't know where the idea got started that they should be (and obviously that's not OP's fault) but IMO it's a big gap in entertainment and culture as it exists at present.
