Really? You don't see the ethical problem in killing people without having any insight in what actually happened? He didn't sit in at the trials (if he actually bothers to wait for them to have a trial, because apparently civilised justice is too slow and humane for him), and he has no way of knowing whether or not the justice system screwed up and convicted an innocent man or woman, something that's far more likely than it should be (and I give the show enough credit to believe it's the same way in animu-world).

He has no way of telling.

Add to that the fact that he kills indiscriminately to protect himself, and actually feels justified in doing so because he accounts himself a god, and above the law. In other words, putting a sociopath in charge of physical justice.

You really don't see any problem with that?

Also consider the fact that not everyone believes in capital punishment, and those people didn't even get their last meal and probably didn't get a final scheduled visit with their family or a religious representative.

I think unless someone is obviously completely beyond all hope and seriously, totally evil (and has done seriously, totally evil things), that killing them would be just as bad as killing anyone else. Ironically, Light falls under that category of people that I think probably should be killed (though I still wouldn't like it).

No, there's no problem with killing people that had their shot at life and are just going to be sitting in a jail cell the rest of their life. He didn't sit the trials personally, but he had access to and viewed the documentation of said trials. And honestly, it's a little naive to think that most people in jail didn't actually commit the crime, insofar as major crimes such as rape, murder, embezzlement, etc. Aside from the first guy he killed (or maybe the second? The one harrassing that woman), he actually had evidence that the people he was killing deserved it.

Of course I advocate it. I put faith in capital punishment. If you go out and kill a hundred people, you deserve to die, not to sit on your ass for fifty years, getting three meals a day and a chance at getting a doctrate for free. I don't get that, and I've never commited a major crime; why should some asshole who's had his shot at life and blew it get that? People that don't believe in capital punishment are pussies.

Light killing indescriminately and killing innocent people to save himself is inappropriate, I don't disagree there (though I can't think of anyone he killed who didn't deserve it). But, you wanna make a perfect world, you've gotta get some criminals out of the way.

For me, it's mostly the whole self-appointed executioner thing. I mean, really, what gives him the right? Nothing. There's no accountability, no chance of appeal, nothing. Then again, I've been having issues with perpetrators of vigilante justice for some time now.
