I have complicated feelings about it, because I do not in fact think going through experiences together that would be much harder to do alone is love.

I think you need really capable actors to make this scene work emotionally.

I always interpreted that part (especially the "25 years my bed is his" line) as her thinking out loud that all those shared experiences slowly built up a bond so that now she can't imagine life without Tevye

That's actually kinda my point. A bond is just a intimate relationship, that's not necessarily love of any sort, especially in the social sphere they live in wherein it's make the best of it or be miserable for the rest of you or your partner's life. But considering the context, wherein they're talking about romantic love (or at least a more modern love within romantic relationships than the type they were taught to expect and respect), it's definitely not necessarily that. I think you are supposed to think that they've developed a mature love, but the context of it doesn't automatically communicate that. There's too many social contexts working on that relationship denoted in the musical and the song.

Actors who are giving affection within the rest of the musical can make this work for me (i.e. during Tevye's dream if it's clear the Golde knows what's up and is having a ball playing along, etc).
