I kinda think that's embedded in the irony of the character. Like, he's supposed to look like a wanker and then it turns out he's likable and clever.

I don't know the source for this secret, but I totally feel you on the sentiment. And it's fun when characters play against type in that way. I wish that sort of casting and writing was way more common.

Oh my god anon, same! Back at that very first season when he's punching those guys in the parking lot my reaction to him was like "I shouldn't be attracted to this" and here we are. I blame it on his massive frame and somewhat obtuse personality.
