Kpop often has pretty questionable elements (like using POC as props in videos, the obsession with youth, the obvious overuse of plastic surgery, sexual exploitation of trainees, etc). I wouldn't imagine BTS was a natural choice for ambassador after the anti-Japan shirt one of them wore, but they are really popular globally.

I didn't know one of them wore an anti-Japan shirt, but I can safely say it hasn't hurt their insane popularity in Japan.
