I believe the point is that she ought to put the cat above her silly, nonsensical, paranoid whims.

That said...maybe just don't cater to her? IDK, I get that toxic family dynamics can be really hard to extricate oneself from, but can she make you quarantine your cat? And if so, how? Presuming she can't make you, then you're an adult and you have the means to ignore the fuck out of her.

Very far from. Nevertheless, the Delta variant has been shown to be an increased risk including to those who have had both vaccinations and with an increased hospital risk. And as cats are able to catch covid from us it's beyond close minded to assume that covid - which originally jumped from animals to us anyway - cannot pass back. It may not have been recorded yet but it is not beyond the realm of possibility. If I was double jabbed and vulnerable or someone I loved was vulnerable I would want to take the same precautions.

That’s… not how zoonotic transmission of coronaviruses work, unless you’re suggesting that if the cat had been allowed to leave the room the BiL would have been compelled to either eat it or get far more up close and personal with it than is generally considered polite to do with someone else’s cat. Of course, I do agree with you that Phil’s ultimately responsible for caring for her own cat and that assuming her parents, who have repeatedly shown that they make poor decisions when it comes to themselves and others, would care for it correctly was a bad move on her part.

nayrt but a clarification... Phil's parents are not great people, but she's emotionally and financially dependent on them so shes kind of stuck. On the one hand, her comments about their behavior indicate this, but on the other hand, she seems to prefer not to address these issues when people here remark upon them, presumably because it's really hard to acknowledge and confront how crappy your family is when your lives are going to be entangled for the foreseeable future. A lot of people still love their parents even if they're not nice and treat them badly. It's fucked up, but super common. It sucks that they can't even be trusted to feed a helpless creature... even if it's just shoving a bowl of food through a slightly open door. No way would I ever subject my pet to that, and I'd be furious if my family had done that. But...like I said, she's stuck with them, so... /shrug

Considering the only reason she thinks the cat is a risk is due to unfounded paranoia, that led her to threaten her father to make sure the cat had to be stuck in a room almost all day with no food, it's not unfair at all. I agree with both anons below me, and I especially agree with the anon who called you an anti-vaxxer. You have the same selfish lack of perspective as them, to come away from all this thinking the sister is being reasonable.

How on earth is it unreasonable to be concerned about your own health? Surely that is the very antithesis of an antivaxxer. If anyone here fits the antivaxxer label it's you and all the crazies in this thread who think that sentiment should be allowed to overrule a possible exposure to a virus that is known to kill - even if that risk is an unknown it does not mean it does not exist.

Frankly, the really really selfish ones here are you and philstar who thinks a day's inconvenience to her cat takes precedence over protecting other people.

Their cat wasn't being fed. It's fine to care about your own health, but you're arguing about priotizing it at the expense of others. If you can't see how ridiculously selfish and self-centered you come across as, I don't know what to tell you. Be better.

And on the future, "No U" attempts at reversal don't work as arguments. That's really all you can come up with. "You call me an ativaxxer? You're the antivaxxer!" "You call me selfish? You're the selfish ones for wanting to think about others instead of yourself!"

That doesn't make sense, but I don't expect that from paranoid antivaxxer types. And you also resort to the classic "An argument I can't brute force my way out of? You're all just a bunch of crazies!" Maybe think next time you want to openly root for a person who's responsible for a cat not being fed all day because of conspiracy theories and self-centeredness, if you don't want people calling you out. Again, be better. If you're capable.
