When I was little, I had some weird hangups about words. "Coats" did not exist; they were jackets. "Sneakers" did not exist; they were shoes. And a "day" was not 24 hours long, it was 12, because the other half was night. (That one was unusual because it at least kind of made sense.) There were a bunch more that I can't remember right now. Did anyone else ever do this?

Tangentially related, but I mispronounced "pedantic" until my 20s.

The Wizard of Oz movie. I hated the "all a dream" thing even then. But as a kid the hangup I ranted about most was that the slippers were supposed to be silver, not ruby.

how is that incorrect? I didn't like the all a dream bit either. And it's not in the books!

The movie made the slippers ruby because they wanted to show off the new color technology. In the books they were silver.

? Not sure what you are saying. As a book fan, I was pedantic about this tiny little change from the source material. AS an adult the reasons I hate the movie are all about missing the point of the book and not understanding the characters. But as a kid that little visual thing bugged me more.

Oh man, that drove me crazy too about the slippers.

Not actually pedantic but in a similar vein to what you're talking about: I would get it in my head that a character's name was pronounced a certain way, and even though I was provably wrong, I would just keep pronouncing it wrong as thought it was just as legit as pronouncing it the right way.

I called Hermione "Her-moyn" for ages, lol. But at least that one made sense. I also called Voldemort "Voldermort" for ages and that one made no sense at all. There were others, but those are two I remember super well.

A lot of people called him "Voldermort" including myself. I think we were right ;)

...Not quite the same, but I remember swearing up and down that the Green Ranger never actually turned good in Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Always Tommy would just conveniently be like "Hey I forgot something, I'll catch up later" just before the goons attacked the original squad, and he'd wait until the fight was almost over before he showed up and finished off the giant monster of the day. Clearly he was coordinating with the enemy and was going to turn on the Rangers again at any time.

and I swore up and down that Tommy was actually named Carlos and was in fact the red ranger because he gave me such leader vibes (but for some reason was simultaneously the black AND white ranger?), and thus the red ranger aka the black ranger aka the white ranger aka Carlos (Tommy) was also my boyfriend, who was not always in the show because he was off doing other power ranger things lol

Hahahha. That sounds like a very confusing headcanon. But I'm sure as a kid it made total sense! :D
