It's highly likely he is a tea snob. Ema points out some high quality tea blend in his office, and he's seen sipping tea in the spinoff games.

I thought I remembered something about tea in his office - thanks for the reminder of where and what it was. It's been so long, and I was in so deep, that at this point I'm sure I've forgotten whether a few things are canon or headcanon. ;)

Having said that, being a tea snob isn't actually all that stereotypically British. Most British people drink pretty mediocre tea. (You *do* get people who are really intense about tea in Germany, though it's a minority interest, but that fits quite well with his background).
