Obviously my appreciation of Oskar/Eli is not a secret for me, lol :-D Yeah, it's fucked up, but also pure at the same time. It wouldn't be so compelling otherwise.

But what's more "fucked up"; the fact that Oskar fell in love with a vampire or the fact that Oskar fell in love with an eunuch thinking he was a girl despite Eli telling him over and over that he wasn't a girl?

OSKAR: You are a pretty girl.
ELI: I am not a girl.
OSKAR: You are a pretty girl.
ELI: Yeah, I am still not a girl.
OSKAR: You are a pretty girl.
ELI: (drops pants)
OSKAR: (pauses, looks down and smiles dreamily) You are a pretty girl.

Oy vey.

(The following reply is a very minor spoiler for the novel, if you haven't read it - I've read it before seeing the film and so that's sort of the "dominant" canon in my head :-) Mostly because a lot of things that remain obscure in the movie are explained in the book.)

Well, in the book he panicks a bit about it :-) He has this short "WTF, am I gay then" moment, but eventually he's like "oh well" and gets along with it, lol. I think in the movie they just made a long story short, and Oskar's "obliviousness" was just a way to show his attraction was to Eli as an individual, not as a "girl".

I'm surprised people who only watched the movie and didn't read the book even got that "she" wasn't a girl, because they seemed to have cut all that stuff out of it. Unless they, unlike me, watched an uncut version.

LOL!!! Actually, I think that's part of the "pure" in their relationship. Eli plays the part of a girl and even after Eli reveals the truth, Oskar still treats 'her' as his girlfriend and continues to love 'her' :)

I love them so much!
