Um...you do know the song is from God's point of view?

[newsflash - Skillet is a Christian rock band. I used to work with them back in the day]

To be fair--I think the song is written so it can be taken either way. Also, I read recently (I think in an interview with John Cooper?) that when the band plays in secular venues they purposefully try not to be labeled as a "Christian band" because of the connotations that has with a secular audience. They don't want to only preach to the choir, you know?

Well yes. Such a technique has been used since the days of Stryper. It's a very fine line to walk - to water down the obvious just enough that people don't go "OMG they're singing about Jesus!" but at the same time...not so much that people start seeing the entirely wrong thing in them. XD And it's hard, so I'm not hating on the boys for that. I'd be terrible at it.

I do applaud the boys for making it big when so many of their counterparts have fallen into obscurity. I still remember the Cornerstone where their record label guy bragged to me that he signed two new bands that were going to go far, Bleach and Skillet. Skillet is huge now and Bleach...er, not around anymore.

Oh yeah, I know. I wasn't saying you were dissing the band--just saying, I don't think the OP is really misconstruing the lyrics so much as interpreting them romantically when they could go either way.

Aaah, I remember Bleach. My Dad really liked that band.

Oh man. Now I feel old. LOL!!
