Ehh. I don't think the trolls have a concrete goal like that. I think they just like the troll in the moment.

This is my question too. Even if someone was motivated to attract more people, how would you go about it?

AYRT--I dunno; I don't have fandom friends to try and lure here, but even if I did... "remember fandom communities on livejournal? There's one that's basically a ghost town with a few stubborn inhabitants still hanging on, come gawk so they can try to lure you in!"

I stoped making secrets after I got personally attacked one time too many. Many are just looking for something to be righteous about and happy to interpret a secret in the worst way possible.

Same with the comments. Accused of being a troll for disagreeing with ehhm popular opinion.

So I don't think that people who consiously troll are the problem here. I think that those who think that others are troll because they dare to have a diferent outlook are the real problem.

I almost left a little while ago because a pretty innocuous secret of mine was just torn apart as me being what's wrong with the world. The rage directed at me was on such a different level than the content of the secret should inspire, it was pretty shocking to me. I've had some smaller incidents where people have taken the meanest interpretation of the secret since than but the sheer anger someone had to that one secret was just insane.

When someone says something like this and doesn't provide any details, I always just assume it was one of the "the Real Racism is against redheads" Disney secrets. Sorry.

Having a troll after you feels like having a stalker when you're a named user.

I shouldn't admit this but...I stay anon now bc I'm still very self conscious and paranoid after having a troll harass me when I was named. It's just not worth the hassle

There's one named user who shows up about once every 6 months to be an ass to certain people, and everyone rightfully ignores them. That's not a welcoming environment, so why would new users want to join?

I'm not putting it on Case to moderate everything all the time, but if your glory days are harassing people in a community of the internet past with a danganronpa icon, well...

I never said anything was ruined for me, and neither did AYRT. They also didn't say Case didn't delete comments when asked

The slowing down of the comm is more due to the changes in how fandom interacts with itself than any sort of troll agenda. Honestly, there's like 3 actual trolls here, at least one of which goes largely unacknowledged as a troll. Add to that, there's a handful of assholes that everyone calls trolls when actually they just have bad opinions that should be ignored. We've also got a couple of named users who like to claim they have their own personal troll whenever someone says anything to them that they don't like. It makes those users feel special and they seem to need that right now, so most of the rest of us humor them.

I dunno if I agree with your assessment of the total troll count here, where the line is between troll and asshole, or how you'd distinguish a bunch of anon trolls from each other, but I definitely agree that fandom changing has done more to slow FS down than trolls.

That said, I wish there was a way to rope some new non-troll people into the comm. Otherwise I fear FS degenerating into this comic but with trolls.
