168: Aww, did someone suck at cosplaying? Way to be a condescending bitch. Woo yay for your fantastic job, but I bet you didn't have half the fun the people you're addressing did.

Yeah, there's nothing fun about having the job you love and priorities that don't include spending hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars to dress up as fictional characters. o.O

... dude, let them spend THEIR OWN MONEY however the fuck they want to. Who the fuck are you to judge how someone spends their money? If they were buying design clothes and alcohol and cigarettes would you complain the same way? I agree some people can take it too far, but EVERYONE I know who cosplays (and that's quite a lot of people) SAVES UP for their cosplay/cons and loves what they do. Most of them have good paying jobs as well, and those who don't have good paying jobs have other reasons for that outside of spending all their time/money on ~cosplay~.

You are not somehow ~better~ than them because you spend your money in different ways, or got a job that pays more. People do what they want/need to do to be HAPPY. I certainly don't blame them, or you, for doing what you need to do to achieve that happiness. For me, I don't care how much money I make, if I don't have the TIME TO SPEND IT I won't be happy. I'd much rather work a lower paying job and have more free time to do my hobbies than I would killing myself in a job that didn't give me the time to spend the money I earned.

You make it sound as if people are forced to cosplay. Sure, the OP has every right to be happy about having a well paying job and a decent education because they put her money into it instead of cosplaying, but they're taking a real fucking snobby attitude about it, which doesn't make them sound happy at all. It's more of a 'HUH, well I have an awesome job, and you're just a bunch of childish losers with low paying jobs'.

Most people my age waste their money on cigarettes, getting wasted and making utter idiots out of themselves, what's wrong with me saving up and doing something fun once, maybe twice, a freaking year?

Not all people who cosplay blow all of their money. I agree that 1000's of dollars is... a bit much-- And I don't think cosplaying should consume one's life...

But I cosplay within reason and I plan on having a career too. The way I see it is like if your friend threw a costume party on Halloween. It's a once a year thing for me. If cosplaying is what people like to do I don't think people should judge them. Some people collect coins, some people chase tornadoes, some collect expensive historical artifiacts, some people hunt for ghosts, some collect cars, and some people take their famalies out to dinner once a week, family vacations, and some people cosplay.

I don't think you should think that all cosplayers are the same-- However I do think you have some merit to your secret as I know a few people who did blow all of their money. :c I feel bad for them and I promised myself I would never let that happen to me. I think cosplaying is great-- as long as you don't go overboard-- and I think that applies to everything I listed above.

I hope I'm making sense. XD

How exactly is your idea of fun better than someone else's? How do you know they all loathe their job, and don't like doing what they do? If they didn't like slaving over a costume, THEY WOULDN'T DO IT. And let's not forget, just because they love a character, dress up and take photos of themselves in the costume, does not mean they want to, or would be good at working in the game or animation industries. Without those fans, you would not have a job.
