Of course, defining genre is notoriously tricky, and I was probably biased by my course which looked at the bildungsroman in modern American literature. I seriously don't mean to put you on the spot; I just hadn't heard of self-assessment or societal acceptance being requirements of the genre before. Rather, it was emphasized to me that a bildungsroman was about a character's growth (often from childhood, but not necessarily). Sometimes the character's place in society remained ambivalent at the conclusion of the narrative, with little (such as with All the Pretty Horses...) self-consciousness.
But I agree with your assessment of the epilogue; while I don't love the execution, it certainly fits the arc of the series and Harry Potter, himself.
