Yeah, and I have kind of been on the other side of this equation. I was waaaay more willing than my partner to endure a little discomfort for cosplay, and so we'd get to the con and I'd be wanting to go out and be seen as our pairings or in our group, and like five minutes later she'd take her wig and other parts of the costume off. So she was clearly not enjoying it, and I was feeling both annoyed that I'd spent time on a costume she didn't want to wear, and like a jerk for trying to make her wear something she didn't want to wear. So, well, I stopped doing that and we just spent cons doing our own stuff.

It's just no good if someone isn't really into it. If that someone is you, it'll be easier on the other people too if they just let you go do what you want to do.

Op. Ahahaha! That happened to us too except they chose the cosplay! They insisted on being one character because they had the contacts for it and having me be their partner despite the fact that I had to wear a wig when I hate wearing wigs. I wore that wig all day and the contacts didn't even last until we got into the Con! And they were pissy about having to wait in the check-in line so they refused to even take picture with the contacts in at all.

Yep. -_- It's just no fun for anyone if everyone's not 100% on board with what you're going to be doing together.

I think a lot of people (and I'm not immune) sometimes forget the PLAY part of "cosplay". It's supposed to be something the cosplayer is enjoying. Some people just want to resemble a favorite character. Some people want to LARP with friends. Some people like a challenge and enjoy making really elaborate impressive stuff, even if it kind of hurts to wear. Some people will enjoy it for an hour or so then be like "okay we got a couple pics, street clothes time." Etc. etc. etc.

Thus not everyone who cosplays is going to cosplay the same way, and that's okay. Just as long as everyone's aware of their friends' limitations and preferences and doesn't make it unenjoyable for other people.

(Also includes bystanders. No more "in-character" Deadpools being obnoxious to everyone who crosses their path, please.)
